V jeho príbehoch ožívajú drsní farmári, mestskí fičúri, dohadzovači, prelietavé dievčatá a všetci, čo prežívajú svoje trápenia na tomto svete. Na neveľkom priestore autor s láskavou iróniou, sviežo a hravo načrtáva mentalitu, spoločenské zvyky a históriu Írska, ako ju môže stvárniť iba človek pevne zrastený s rodným krajom.
