Exploring La Rochefoucauld's concept of truth, this study conducts a close textual analysis of his works, specifically the Maximes and the less-studied Reflexions diverses. While the Maximes have been widely critiqued, the Reflexions diverses remain underexplored, with recent contributions from Jean Lafond. The analysis delves into Rochefoucauld's complex views on truth and the human tendency to conceal it from others and themselves, filling a gap in modern criticism that has yet to fully address these enigmatic insights.
