In four closely interrelated studies, this book examines the problem of Judaism in Germany and Austria as depicted in a number of representative but unjustly neglected plays and novels from the turn of the century (by Beer-Hofmann, Bahr and W. von Scholz). An introductory essay takes a critical look at underlying typological notions to be found in the writings of Nietzsche, Langbehn, Wassermann etc., which in some respects still apply today.
