In the more-than-150-year history of the photographic image, Zoltn Glass--one of the most well-known ''unknown'' photographers--stands among the very few in his profession who have succeeded in combining a surefooted sense of narrative with a sensibility for Cartier-Bresson's ''decisive moment,'' the exact moment for pressing the shutter. Zoltn Speed and Spirit features a selection of more than 100 race and car pictures--most of them previously unpublished--photographed by Glass on behalf of Daimler-Benz on the Berlin Avus, the Nurburgring, automobile fairs, studio shots done for advertising, or on the street.
