Misleading Trajectories

Integration Policies for Young Adults in Europe?

Más información sobre el libro

The risk of social exclusion has notably increased in recent decades, with young people being particularly vulnerable, especially if they lack a stable social position, defined here as stable employment. Across Europe, there is a growing consensus that policies must actively support young people, who are seen as the future of society. However, a prevalent myth among politicians and policymakers is that any action taken for youth is sufficient. The thematic network 'Misleading Trajectories' explored these misconceptions and the inherent risks of social exclusion in policies aimed at youth transitions, such as education, vocational training, career advice, social security, and labor market programs. Funded by the European Commission under the 4th Framework Programme for Research, Technology and Demonstration from 1998 to 2001, the network included teams from Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. It began with the observation that many local, regional, national, and European policies designed to guide young adults toward employment, adult status, and social integration are, in reality, misleading.
