Intelligence and security informatics (ISI) encompasses the study of advanced information technologies and systems for security-related applications. The First and Second Symposiums on ISI took place in Tucson, Arizona, in 2003 and 2004, followed by the IEEE International Conference on ISI in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005. These conferences united academic researchers, law enforcement, intelligence experts, and IT practitioners to discuss various ISI topics such as data management, data and text mining, terrorism informatics, deception detection, social network analysis, crime analysis, monitoring, policy studies, and information assurance. The series continued with the Workshop on Intelligence and Security Informatics (WISI 2006), held alongside the Pacific Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2006). WISI 2006 offered a dynamic platform for ISI researchers from Pacific Asia and beyond to share ideas and showcase research advancements. Hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Arizona, Nanyang Technological University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the one-day event featured a keynote speech, four refereed paper sessions, two invited sessions, and a poster reception.
