Von Trier nach Köln 1550 - 1850

Más información sobre el libro

Altkarten, also known as old maps from periods before land registers and modern infrastructure development, are often utilized as sources for historical cultural landscapes, yet their complexities are frequently overlooked. This study focuses on when and in which types of maps representations of roads appear, how these roads were marked, and their significance for researching ancient road systems. It is part of a broader project by the Rheinisches Amt für Bodendenkmalpflege on Roman roads in the Rhineland, analyzing four specific regions: the Kyllwald forest, Marmagen and Nettersheim, the area between Trier and Neuhaus, and south-west of Cologne. The research delves into various map types, including those related to administration, land ownership, forestry, waterways, mining, urban areas, legal matters, military uses, and transportation routes. The work culminates in an examination of early land surveys from the first half of the 19th century, accompanied by a summary, a catalogue, and comprehensive lists and indices. This thorough analysis aims to enhance understanding of historical cartography and its relevance to the study of ancient infrastructures.
