Ricerche sulla lingua osmanlı del XVI secolo

Más información sobre el libro

This book offers a systematic analysis of the Turkish lexical corpus found in a manuscript known as Regola del parlare turcho, housed in the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence. Written in 1533 by Filippo Argenti, a secretary to the Florentine Ambassador in Istanbul, the manuscript consists of over 650 pages in two volumes. Scholars became aware of it through a brief 1938 essay by Alessio Bombaci, which only covered a small portion of the content. Approximately 90% of the manuscript remains unpublished, featuring an Italian-Turkish glossary with thousands of entries categorized into Vocabulario di nomi and Vocabulario de verbi. This research publishes the material in its entirety, organized alphabetically by Turkish entries, and includes linguistic and historical-etymological commentary on each entry as a loan term. The study addresses a significant gap in Turkish language studies, as the only other 16th-century European materials on Turkish are limited and fragmentary. It was not until the following century that a comparable work emerged. This research represents a crucial contribution to understanding the Turkish language as spoken in the first half of the 16th century.
