Más información sobre el libro

Natural ecosystems rely heavily on water, which is vital for life development. The quality and availability of water are influenced by ecology and landscape, with exceptional hydrological phenomena often found in protected areas. Examples include the geysers in Yellowstone National Park, the Ramsar wetlands, the Iguaçu Falls, and the Zapata Swamp in Cuba. Unfortunately, conservation strategies for hydraulic resources in these areas are frequently overlooked or inadequately addressed. Effective management strategies are essential for planning and protecting these valuable ecosystems, as hydraulic resource management must be integrated with conservation efforts. The first Symposium for the Management of Hydraulic Resources in Protected Areas aimed to foster communication about water resource management experiences. It facilitated discussions on research advancements and potential solutions to challenges faced in these regions. The contributions in this proceedings volume are organized into seven themes: wastewater purification and reuse in rural communities; public use impacts on water resources; aquifer vulnerabilities and risks; design and management of water resources in protected areas; research and monitoring of water resources; the role of water as a renewable energy source in protected spaces; and the conservation of geodiversity and hydraulic heritage areas.
