Más información sobre el libro

Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) are a prominent topic in modern software architecture design, yet this book contends that they are not as groundbreaking as often claimed, drawing instead from various predecessor architectural styles. It highlights the shortcomings of SOAs in automating service discovery, composition, and orchestration. To address these issues, the book proposes transforming SOAs into Semantic SOAs (SSOAs) using existing semantic technologies. It begins by laying the foundational concepts of SOAs and exploring knowledge-based technologies in the realm of web services. A reference process for designing and implementing a SSOA is outlined, emphasizing the integration of knowledge-based technologies during the requirements engineering phase. The elicited requirements are then used to construct a generic SSOA, presented through multiple views and perspectives. Security aspects within the SSOA framework are also discussed. To evaluate the current feasibility of SSOAs, the book details requirements, architecture, and implementation considerations from real-world research projects focused on SSOAs. A comparative analysis with a hypothetical client/server system of similar functionality demonstrates the added value of semantic enhancements that can be implemented today.
