The series "Studies in Computational Intelligence" (SCI) publishes new developments and advances in computational intelligence, focusing on theory, applications, and design methods across engineering, computer science, physics, and life sciences. It includes monographs, lecture notes, and edited volumes covering topics such as neural networks, genetic algorithms, evolutionary computation, artificial intelligence, cellular automata, self-organizing systems, soft computing, fuzzy systems, and hybrid intelligent systems. The series emphasizes short publication times and global distribution for rapid dissemination of research results. The 11th IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Computer and Information Science (ICIS 2012), held from May 30 to June 1, 2012, in Shanghai, China, aimed to unite scientists, engineers, computer users, and students to share experiences and exchange ideas on all aspects of computer and information science. Participants discussed practical challenges and solutions encountered in the field.
