The International Winter School on Electronic Properties of Polymers, held March 9-16, 1991, in Kirchberg, Austria, continued the tradition of previous meetings on related topics. Organized in collaboration with Austria's and Germany's ministries for science and research, the event aimed to facilitate discussions among experienced scientists from academia and industry, while also introducing students and early-career researchers to current research and applications in the field. This year's focus was on the electronic structure and applications of polymers with conjugated double bonds, with particular emphasis on orientation and dimensionality. Key discussions centered around the anisotropy of electric conductivity in stretch-oriented samples, exploring whether transport mechanisms were one-, two-, or three-dimensional, or even exhibited "fractal dimensionality." The orientation issue extended to systems like Langmuir-Blodgett films and layered structures, making thin films a primary focus for application-oriented contributions. Unlike previous meetings that emphasized "large volume applications" such as electromagnetic shielding and energy storage, this winter school shifted its attention to "molecular materials for electronics" and the future of "molecular electronics."
