Más información sobre el libro

The work of Uri Aran (b. 1977, New York) interrogates and redefines structures of communication, the material world, and interpersonal relationships. His visually unique and unsettling videos, drawings, assemblages, texts, and sculptures straddle the line between the familiar and the strange. Aran’s narratives delve into themes of longing, identity, home, the everyday, sentimentality, sadness, dislocation, and displacement. By layering different temporal axes, linguistic structures, and material categories, he reconstructs and manipulates the concept of storytelling, subverting existing genres and hierarchies. His exploration of humor, poetics, and the manipulation of popular objects evokes associated feelings while prompting viewers to question these objects, their relationships to them, and their own experiences. This monograph serves as a comprehensive overview of Aran’s multifaceted work, featuring a detailed selection of his creations, numerous installation views, and newly commissioned texts by Fionn Meade and Liam Gillick. It also includes an interview with Beatrix Ruf, Niels Olsen, and Fredi Fischli, along with a visual essay by the artist. The publication is part of the Kunsthalle Zürich series in collaboration with the South London Gallery.
