Since 1945, the United Nations Security Council has been central to an international security regime aimed at maintaining peace and security. Throughout the Cold War and beyond, there has been a notable decline in inter-state warfare, with the Council contributing to this evolution. However, it has faced significant challenges, particularly in addressing domestic conflicts involving non-state actors and issues of legitimacy, often perceived as favoring the interests of its three western permanent members.
