This volume offers an overview of the internationalisation of legal education (IOLE) across various civil and common law countries. It captures the current state of discussions regarding the extent and form of internationalisation in legal curricula worldwide. Compiled from National Reports submitted for the August 2014 IACL Congress in Vienna, it includes an introductory general report. The reports address key questions: Why is IOLE a pressing topic now? How relevant is it globally? Is interest uniform across different regions? What drives enthusiasm for IOLE—academics, governments, or multinational corporations? Is this interest linked to the globalization of legal practice, or is the concept of globalised law a myth limited to a small segment of lawyers? The findings indicate a significant global interest in IOLE, with diverse initiatives emerging worldwide. However, some National Reporters note that the topic may not be prioritized in certain regions. Overall, the volume illustrates that while approaches to internationalisation differ greatly, there is a shared recognition of the necessity to prepare future lawyers for a more interconnected global legal landscape.
