The last journey of death row inmates to execution

Más información sobre el libro

The exhibition and accompanying book explore the final journey of condemned men in Texas, where approximately 300 death row inmates await execution, often for years, in isolated cells at the Allan B. Polunsky Unit. Executions take place at the Huntsville Unit, known as “The Walls,” located about 60 miles away. The photographs document the last moments of these individuals and provide personal insights into the lives of two inmates. The project aims to enhance understanding of what it means to spend final days in such a facility. Jim Willett, a former prison guard, shares his experiences of witnessing 89 executions over three years at Huntsville. The book includes snapshots and an exclusive interview with condemned inmates Charles “Chucky” Mamou and Arnold Prieto Jr., taken in January 2014. Since 1976, Texas has executed 506 prisoners, contributing to a total of 3,359 executions across the United States. The exhibition and book serve as a poignant reflection on the realities of capital punishment and the human stories behind it.
