Más información sobre el libro

Nursing sciences have long examined communication in nursing care, particularly the challenges faced when interacting with elderly and ill patients. While existing literature highlights these difficulties, it often overlooks the psychological aspects of communication that affect both parties involved. Since Freud's introduction of psychoanalysis, psychodynamic theories have emphasized the unconscious processes at play during conversations, influencing the behavior of both communicators. Nursing staff are not immune to these dynamics; they engage emotionally in interactions just like any other participant. This paper aims to explore psychodynamic processes in nursing communication, utilizing Carl R. Rogers' concept of congruence from conversational psychotherapy. The focus is on how congruence can enhance communication between caregivers and care-receivers. After providing a brief historical overview of Rogers, congruence is discussed as a critical component of effective communication in nursing. The relationship between congruency and coherence is then examined in relation to Antonovsky's salutogenesis model, highlighting the importance of these concepts in fostering better interactions in nursing care.
