Más información sobre el libro
Repositories for low-use books have long been established by cultural institutions worldwide, with libraries leading the way in off-site storage development. This necessity has evolved as libraries continuously collect print materials that document the intellectual and cultural contributions of various societies. The forthcoming volume will focus on two main aspects of this evolving role: the organizational and technological responses to these changes and the strategic approaches to digital challenges. Contributions will highlight work not only in libraries but also in galleries, archives, and museums, with perspectives from Europe, the UK, the US, and Australasia. The discussed organizational models illustrate innovative responses to the challenges faced by individual institutional libraries. As cultural institutions experience similar pressures, there is a convergence of needs and solutions. This collection acknowledges the diverse strategic, organizational, and technological responses necessary for preserving cultural objects, whether books, art, or records. It exemplifies the effectiveness of creative thinking, professional planning, and international collaboration in addressing these challenges. The volume will be edited by Pentti Vattulainen and Steve O’Connor, both of whom bring significant international experience to the discussion.
