Becca is fed up with all boys. So when the gang is together, Squidge dares her: since there are no boys she really wants to kiss, she should try the next person who comes through the door. Enter Lal Lovering, on holiday in Cornwall and who is overwhelmed, but very happy at Becca's response to him! As Becca stands back and realises that she really quite likes him, she begins to wonder what he will ever think of her after this first impression. But life is never without its complications, and Becca's own feelings for Lal change as she experiences her parents' marriage disintegrating, and starts looking closely at what sort of support a boyfriend should give...
