In Graubünden, particularly in the Oberengadin, diverse languages and cultures interact, creating a unique "orchestra of languages." Rätoromanisch, Deutsch, Italienisch, and others blend as locals and visitors engage with one another. Since the late 19th century, a "mixed choir" of artists and writers has shaped this cultural landscape. This volume explores the literary topography of Graubünden, focusing on the aesthetics of multilingual texts, which include writing in two languages, self- and external translations, as well as phenomena of language contact and mixing within texts. The poetics of literary multilingualism rooted in Graubünden are highlighted, showcasing their broader implications. Interdisciplinary research on literary multilingualism has gained traction in recent years, receiving significant international attention. This collection features contributions from experts in German studies, Rätoroman studies, Italian studies, comparative literature, and translation studies.
