The Woodlanders

Set in a small woodland village in nineteenth-century England, the story explores themes of romance and social class. Giles Winterborne, longing to marry his childhood sweetheart Grace, faces opposition from her father, who deems him unsuitable. When Grace's father encourages her to marry Edred Fitzpiers, a young doctor, the marriage quickly deteriorates due to Edred's infidelity with a wealthy widow. As Grace struggles with her situation, she finds herself turning to Giles for support, reigniting old feelings amidst societal pressures.
