Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay masterminded both the evacuation of the BEF from Dunkirk in 1940 and Operation NEPTUNE, the naval dimension of OVERLORD, the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944. Sadly Admiral Ramsay did not survive the war, but throughout 1944 he kept a personal diary, which is now published for the first time. In it we are presented with a remarkable picture of war at the top, with glimpses of such leading personalities as Churchill and Montgomery and a running commentary on the Supreme Commander of OVERLORD, Eisenhower. This book also includes a substantial introduction to Ramsay's career and role in the war, full notes explaining events and personalities described in the text, and a selection of contemporary photographs.
