Management of federations and future internet 2011

Más información sobre el libro

Communication Network and Service Management has traditionally focused on management approaches applicable within a limited domain. In a landscape dominated by a few large providers offering end-to-end services across complex networks, this made sense. However, the modern communications environment is characterized by multi-mode, loosely-coupled, user-centric services that often span diverse operator business models and cross various management domains. This shift highlights the need for management approaches that facilitate federated management across organizational boundaries. Despite the successes of the current Internet, it faces systemic issues, including a looming shortage of IPv4 addresses and security deficiencies. However, the lack of scalable and agile management is arguably more critical, as effective management is essential for adapting services and resources contextually. Whether considering a clean-slate or evolutionary approach to the Future Internet's manageability, it is crucial to address the complexities of managing resources and services. Common challenges and strategies in managing federations and the Future Internet prompted the decision to publish the proceedings from the First IFIP/IEEE Workshop on Managing Federations and Cooperative Management and the Third IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Management of the Future Internet, both held in Dublin, Ireland, in May 2011.
