This development has led the auto industry to focus on design concepts that can reduce fuel consumption, and subsequently emissions. The power generation and tranmission systems, which lead the fuel consumption inefficiency in a car, are the leading factors for high emissions. The conventionally bulky structure of automobiles comes second. Thus improvements on autobody design can decrease the emissions significantly.
