Set in an alternative 2011, the Mental Parity movement has led to a society that rejects the notion of varying intelligence, viewing discrimination against those labeled "dumb" as a significant civil rights issue. Pearson Converse, a college English instructor with a rebellious spirit, struggles against the oppressive educational system that stifles her gifted children. As she navigates her frustrations and a deepening rift with her best friend, their contrasting views on the movement threaten to unravel their lifelong bond.
