Más información sobre el libro

The tension between preservation and innovation is a central theme in contemporary cultural discourse, suggesting a choice between cultural identity and global homogeneity. This language that is every stone explores this dynamic through the lens of creolisation, a concept popularized by Martinican writer Édouard Glissant. Recognized as a significant literary figure in the Caribbean, Glissant's work continues to inspire artists worldwide. He defined creolisation as an ongoing cultural transformation, where local differences arise from continuous interactions among people and their environments. Glissant emphasized that no one can be entirely shielded from the influences of the world. Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, and Kamilaroi artist Warraba Weatherall, this exhibition is the fourth in a series that examines Glissant’s life and work. Tailored to an Australian context, it investigates cultural synthesis and permeability through the contributions of Australian First Nations and diasporic artists, alongside international participants. The exhibition took place at the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia, from February 12 to April 23, 2022.
