Focusing on the syntactic derivation of coordinate structures, this Element investigates the operations and constraints involved in combining syntactic constituents. It addresses recent research on whether special syntactic operations are necessary for various coordinate constructions, including those with gaps in conjuncts. Additionally, it explores the functional categories that may head these constructions, the morphosyntactic roles of coordinators in different languages, and the implications of conjunct mobility on syntactic operations.
