Más información sobre el libro

In 1909, a decade after Thomas Argyle, Charlie Cooper, and Livia Naylor sparked a revolution by releasing Smoke, the world faces unforeseen consequences. Initially viewed as a sign of sin, Smoke was revealed to be a means of societal control, allowing genuine emotional connections. The trio believed liberating Smoke would dismantle the oppressive power structure, but instead, society has fractured. Erasmus Renfrew, a staunch opponent of Smoke, now rules as Lord Protector of the remnants of England. Meanwhile, Charlie and Livia thrive in Minetowns, an egalitarian community that embraces Smoke, while Thomas is on a secret mission in India to uncover its origins and the Company's expedition in the Himalayas. Mowgli, once the catalyst for the Smoke's release, now lives as Nils, a thief in New York. Eleanor Renfrew, Erasmus’ niece and a victim of his cruel experiments, hides in Canada, possessing a strange power over Smoke that she fears. Believing her uncle's agents are closing in, she escapes to New York with a theater troupe led by the enigmatic Balthazar Black. There, she encounters Nils and a cunning Company operative named Smith. As their paths converge, they seek to understand and control Smoke's true nature, leading to a looming confrontation that could either unite them or tear the world apart.
