Verity has a pet. She loves her lots. But her pet is very, very, very boring. Even so, Mabel, Verity's dear old tabby cat, is a good listener. She never minds what Verity talks about. Mabel may not be as adventurous or as much fun as her friend Sophie's four kittens, but she's always there for Verity. Miss Smith, Verity's new teacher, tells the class that in Ancient Egypt, people worshipped cats. Verity thinks Mabel could definitely have been a cat goddess in those days.
