Charlie Kim is an academically brilliant, but socially inadequate first-generation Korean immigrant in the US, who aces every exam, borrows his dad's records, and his dad's clothes, plays the guitar in a band and spends a lot of time on the bench at football games.He has a very close friendship with a first-generation French immigrant, Antoine enabling them to express their concerns and challenges in growing up in the US with dual nationality.We follow him through his first romance with an exchange student Lena Klein who has more talents than are at first apparent.This story of high school, peer pressure, romance and time-travel make for an impassioned read, although the biggest question is, will Charlie Kim ever be a starter player on his high-school football team.
