Más información sobre el libro
Humans possess a powerful tool for enacting the world language, or languaging, which enables them to navigate a general semiotic system rather than a specific language. Human existence is deeply intertwined with signification processes across various fields, linking languaging to culture and thought. The revival of linguistic relativism, or Whorfianism, asserts that perceptions are shaped by spoken language, gaining traction in contemporary language studies. Recognizing the importance of discursive activities as fundamental to human endeavors, the editors present a collection of chapters focused on cultural issues embedded in language. This volume stems from a seminar held on October 23, 2019, at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies in Berlin, organized by the Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Gdańsk, alongside Leibniz University Hannover and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The primary aim was to prepare and publish this monograph, emphasizing a tutoring concept that fosters close collaboration between experienced mentors and students as they plan their academic futures. While the main authors of the chapters are students, the significant support from mentors in conceptual research and editorial processes warrants proper acknowledgment.
