Más información sobre el libro

Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen is a poignant autobiography by Queen Lili'uokalani, Hawaii's first and only queen, who passionately advocated for her people's rights. Written in 1898 after her appeal to President Grover Cleveland, the book reflects her experiences growing up on Oahu as part of the royal family of King Kamehameha III. Despite inspiring Cleveland to support her reinstatement, the U.S. Congress published the Morgan Report in 1894, denying involvement in the overthrow of Hawaii's monarchy. Lili'uokalani's book emerged as a final plea for Hawaiian sovereignty, but it arrived too late, as President McKinley and Congress approved Hawaii's annexation that same year. In her narrative, Lili'uokalani shares her childhood memories, education among royals, and her early artistic inclinations, including her passion for writing and music. She is known for composing "Aloha 'Oe" and over 100 other songs throughout her life. Although her book did not succeed in restoring the monarchy, it remains a heartfelt testament to her journey and her dedication to her people, capturing the essence of a beloved monarch who fought tirelessly for their rights.
