Jack McEvoy, a crime reporter nearing the end of his career at the Los Angeles Times, is determined to leave with a bang by pursuing a Pulitzer Prize-winning story. With only days left on the job, he is tasked with training his replacement, but his focus shifts to Alonzo Winslow, a 16-year-old drug dealer who has confessed to a brutal crime. However, as Jack digs deeper, he discovers that the confession is likely false, reigniting his pursuit of a major story reminiscent of his past encounters with a notorious killer known as The Poet. Teaming up with FBI Agent Rachel Walling, Jack sets out to track down a new killer who has evaded law enforcement's attention. Unbeknownst to Jack, his investigation has triggered a digital alert, and the killer is aware of Jack's pursuit, preparing for their inevitable confrontation.
