The Year the Gypsies Came

Set in late 1960s Johannesburg, the Iris family hosts guests to ease their unhappy home life. An Australian family arrives, bringing their two boys, Streak and brain-damaged Otis. Eleven-year-old Emily bonds with Streak, but tragedy alters their lives forever. The novel is enriched with Zulu folktales.
