Emilie Demant Hatt's narrative recounts her immersive nine-month experience living with a Sami family in northern Sweden, highlighting her participation in a dramatic reindeer migration to Norway. As a single woman in her thirties, she delved into the Sami culture, capturing daily life, women's roles, and the care of reindeer through her journals, sketches, and photographs. This first English translation of her 1913 work includes additional insights from the translator and a foreword by Hugh Beach, enriching the portrayal of the Sami people and their Arctic landscape.
