Focusing on speech act recognition, this research study examines the ability of Iranian EFL learners to identify various speech acts and the influence of their proficiency levels. The results show that learners recognized Expressive speech acts more frequently, with advanced learners outperforming pre-intermediate learners in accurately distinguishing between different speech acts. This highlights the impact of language proficiency on comprehension and recognition skills in English as a foreign language.
