Focusing on subsistence activities such as fishing, hunting, and gathering, this study highlights the significance of ethnoarchaeology in understanding the ancient aquatic lifestyle of the Protohistoric Tarascan state in Michoacán, Mexico. It examines how the region's rich aquatic resources, including various wild species, were crucial for the diet and economy of Mesoamerican cultures. The research sheds light on a civilization that thrived in a landscape characterized by lakes and marshes, emphasizing the strategic importance of these natural resources in the absence of major domesticated animal proteins.
