Aeneas, Sicily, and Rome

Focusing on the legendary figure of Aeneas, this study explores his representation in ancient art and artifacts, highlighting his roles as a warrior, the abductor of Helen, and the founder of Rome. It examines his significance to both Greeks and Romans, the qualities for which he was admired, and how his legend contributed to imperial propaganda. The richly illustrated survey correlates visual depictions with literary, historical, and religious traditions of the ancient Mediterranean, providing a comprehensive understanding of Aeneas's cultural impact.
