The Reconstruction of Modality in Chinese-English Government Press Conference Interpreting

Focusing on Government Press Conference (GPC) interpreting in China, this book employs Systemic Functional Grammar to analyze modality shifts during 21 interpreting events. It combines qualitative and quantitative analyses to uncover patterns and sociocultural influences affecting these shifts. By examining the unique characteristics of GPC interpreting, the work enhances understanding of modality rendition between Chinese and English, while also offering insights into the broader nature of interpreting practices.
