Austrian EFL learners and their awareness of social stereotypes towards selected varieties of British English

Focusing on language attitudes, this seminar paper investigates how Austrian EFL learners perceive various British English native standard and non-standard varieties. Conducted in 2021, the study builds on decades of research dating back to the 1960s, involving both native and non-native speakers across different English varieties. Utilizing an online questionnaire with 20 items, the research gathered responses from 28 Austrian student teachers to assess whether their attitudes align with previous findings in the field.
