Martha Burton, an East Texas housewife, is suicidal due to the recent death of her mother. She plans to end her life but suddenly has a spiritual vision in which she enters Heaven and there happily encounters Jesus Christ, who warmly welcomes her. She is greeted by her mother but because her time has not come, she cannot stay. Returning to this world she finds that the awesome vision has helped her cope with her grief. She is invited by her aunt and uncle to "play" with an ouija board. Joining them, she becomes through the board the focus of attention of a spirit of a witty, charming gentleman, and world-renowned playwright. During their repartee, the spirit reveals very interesting facts about a previous life Martha lived and a tender love story. He also has some excellent advice on living life to the fullest.
