Throughout Japanese society, a primary value is harmony. For example, in politics, the Japanese statesman attempts to rule by consensus. When that breaks down, he must meet with the factions in order to arrive at a new consensus so that once more they can move as on in accord with the Confucian ideal of harmony. And are not relationships a kind of politics? Ron is an artist, an occasional English teacher, and a male courtesan for Japanese host clubs. The two main women in his life are his wife-of-convenience and daugther of host club owners, Aoi, and Sachiko, friend, model and occasional love. When Aoi ruptures their consensus, can they establish another?
