Determined to write the next great American novel, Greg Emerson has spent decades chasing an elusive Idea. Grappling with a crippling case of writer's block and several failed attempts to produce a masterpiece, he embarks on a month-long retreat to a serene Smoky Mountain cabin in hopes that inspiration will strike. His trip takes an unforeseen turn when he's revisited by a menacing Shadow and Voice-specters that have haunted him during the lowest points in his life.
