After finally navigating himself through high school alone, he heads off to college in the heart of the Midwest where he learns the hard knocks of racism and relationships, embarking on his solo journey to manhood. Fighting to find his grounding in life, Jean supports himself at a clothing sales job where he becomes entangled in a complicated love story, leaving his heart literally broken.
