Brick Davidson, the redhead from Sun Dog, is a Montana sheriff. When his good friend, Silent Slade, is convicted of the murder of Scotty McKee, Brick is absolutely sure his friend was wrongly accused and allows Slade to escape. He then tenders his resignation as sheriff and makes it look as though he's heading for the Mexican border.
