In 2005, Yoana Nin, and her husband, Mihai Mocanu won the Green Card lottery to emigrate to America from their native country, Romania. With nothing to lose, and little in their pockets, they arrived in the land of opportunity. First stop was Hollywood, where Yoana, a trained actress in Romania sought to follow her dreams of becoming a working actress. She worked in theatre and movies for a few years, in front of the camera as well as behind it, but longed for more. When she became pregnant, motherhood took over. With one child in tow, her next few pregnancies did not come to term. Heartbroken, and tired of the rat race, the couple moved east to North Carolina, landing in a city which was said to be one of the top places to raise children.
