After forty years in ministry, I felt a lack of the Holy Spirit in worship, prompting a search for a place where I could experience His movement. Despite visiting various churches across denominations and states, I noticed a consistent absence of spiritual growth, both numerically and spiritually, despite diverse preaching and music styles. This led to extensive prayer and research, inspiring me to create a thoughtful self-evaluation of our worship practices. My aim is not to criticize individual leaders but to foster an examination of worship through scripture, exploring its evolution from the Old Testament to today, including cultural influences. The book contains questions designed to help readers reflect on their relationship with God, making it suitable for group study. My journey began on a small North Carolina farm in 1939. Despite feeling too old to write at eighty-one, I felt compelled to share my experiences. After a long struggle with my calling, I surrendered to God in 1969, earning a BA in Theology and a Masters of Divinity. My ministry experience spans various settings, including rural and urban churches, and I have worked with seminaries to train future leaders. Throughout my life, I have learned that reliance on God and His word is essential for navigating life’s challenges.
