Bento, his wife Janaina, and their daughter Aurea flee Brazil to escape the drug bosses Bento worked for, seeking a fresh start in the United States. While Aurea is initially confused about leaving, she finds happiness in Cincinnati, enjoying school, the library, and weekends at Riverfront Park. However, everything changes when her parents leave her on the porch of a home in Hyde Park, entrusting her to a woman named Alex with an envelope.
