Biology of inorganic nitrogen and sulfur

Más información sobre el libro

Nitrogen and sulfur compounds undergo continuous synthesis, degradation, and conversion in nature, with many similarities in the biological mechanisms involved. Despite ongoing research, numerous details remain poorly understood. In May 1980, a conference in Bochum, Germany, aimed to explore and compare various aspects of the nitrogen and sulfur cycles. Esteemed experts delivered lectures on topics including dinitrogen fixation, nitrate and sulfate reduction, and the oxidation of ammonia and sulfide. Additionally, significant findings were shared by German scientists involved in a national program focused on the Metabolism of Inorganic Nitrogen and Sulfur Compounds, which received support from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. This compilation includes all contributions from the conference, making it a valuable resource for researchers, educators, and students in the field. The German national program members extend their gratitude to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft for its generous financial backing over the past four years, which made both the conference and this publication possible. Special thanks are given to Dr. A. Hoffmann for her exceptional support in managing the projects and scientists involved.
