Interest in biomass for non-food applications has surged recently due to its potential as a renewable energy resource, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy security. Utilizing biomass also addresses pressing issues in many Western European countries, such as unemployment and the need to repurpose farmland to reduce agricultural overproduction.
